Yellow, cloudy or oxidised headlights: can they be repaired?

Headlight restoration can repair the appearance of an externally oxidised plastic lens. The right approach depends on whether the problem is on the outside of the lens or inside the headlight assembly.

Yellowing and oxidation on the outside

A plastic headlight can develop a yellow, hazy or rough surface as its protective coating deteriorates. This is the type of condition our restoration service addresses. We remove the damaged surface, refine it through sanding and polishing, then apply fresh UV protection.

Cloudy headlights and faded lenses

Cloudiness can be external or internal. Photos help us assess likely surface deterioration, but an inspection may be needed to tell the difference. External restoration will not remove haze or damage on the inside of the assembly.

Headlight polishing and UV protection

Polishing is part of our restoration process. The service also includes surface preparation and a UV protective coating. We give you the aftercare instructions for the coating used and explain the warranty.

Cracks, condensation and lights that do not work

Cracked lenses, failed seals, water inside the assembly, damaged reflectors and electrical or bulb faults are different problems. External restoration does not fix these faults. If you are unsure what is wrong, send a photo and explain the symptoms before booking a restoration.

Restoration or replacement?

Restoration may be suitable when deterioration is on the external lens and the assembly is otherwise in a suitable condition. Severe lens or internal damage may require another repair or replacement. We explain any visible limitations before starting.

Will the yellowing come back?
